If you are anything like me, people like this guy are intimidating. You probably think to yourself these people must spend their whole lives in the gym. Maybe you are too embarrassed or intimidated to go to the gym. Fortunately there are ways to work out at home without going to the gym. This video shows one of the many ways to do that. The gym can also be crowded, which, if you are an introvert like me, makes you want to say forget the gym, I'm going home where it's quiet. Some of us want to wait to go to the gym until we look a little more fit. Kind of ironic that the gym is full of people who don't need to go to the gym and those of us who do need to hit the gym avoid going to the gym. When I've avoided the gym for a very long time and I know that I'm out of shape, I like to start easy with just a few crunches or sit ups a day, or just an easy walk. Some people say that it is better to work fitness into your everyday life than to just go to the gym. It's more holistic to have fitness as part of your way of life than something that you make yourself do, like going to the gym, especially if it is something you don't even enjoy. I personally say whatever works for you, whatever helps you be motivated to get into shape and stay in shape is the best option. If it is the gym, then go to the gym. If it is a home workout, do a home workout. If it is doing a home workout in order to get into good shape so that you can go show off your hot bod at the gym, well you get in shape and go to the gym!

The Simpsons - What's The Gym
You are probably as unfamiliar with the gym as Homer Simpson. I know that I am. Have you ever walked into the gym and seen all the shiny equipment with belts and chains and swivels and thought "there is no way I could ever do this". I think that donuts on the handles of the exercise bikes would make a great motivation. The gym does not motivate me. The gym makes me want to stay home on my couch and watch television. I think that people that stay home from the gym are missing out, but it would be great if someone would start a gym for people who don't understand all the equipment and look like they have never worked out in the gym in their whole entire life. I would encourage you to not give up. Maybe start with your first visit to the gym late at night or on a holiday, there will be less people and you won't be as embarrassed. Take the first step and just decided that even if you will never be the gym rat, you at least will be proud that you are spending some time at the gym and taking care of your body.
